Meet Dr. Schumacher

I’ve wanted to be an orthodontist since I was 16. It has been a dream come true to come back to Effingham and receive such wonderful support from so many people in this community. It is humbling to be trusted with perfecting someone’s smile, and I take that responsibility seriously.

I am so grateful that I get to come to work every day to do something I love with such an awesome staff and such amazing patients. I hope that each person we have the honor to treat feels like they received the best orthodontic care possible, as we worked together to achieve their healthiest, most beautiful smile!

Education

After growing up in Sigel, I graduated from Neoga High School. Then I attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, where I received a bachelor’s degree in science. This was followed by dental school at the Southern Illinois School of Dental Medicine, in Alton. I graduated with honors and my Doctorate of Dental Medicine.

Next came a move to Kansas City, Missouri, where I completed a two-year orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics residency at the University of Missouri Kansas City.

Schumacher Orthodontics

In 2009 I opened my private practice here in Effingham. I am proud of the reputation we have earned and all the people we have helped. I love getting to know my patients. It’s rewarding to see the children and teens grow up feeling confident and ready to take on the world. It’s just as fulfilling to work with adults who have longed for a more becoming smile for years.

I feel fortunate to have an exceptionally talented, stable team at Schumacher Orthodontics. They care about our patients and families as much as I do, and that’s reflected in everything they do to keep the office running so well. Each team member is skilled, friendly, professional, and fun. They make our office an inviting and laughter-filled space, where each patient is cared for as an individual.

One of the best things about my career and this practice is keeping in touch with former patients. I love seeing pictures taken at homecoming or prom, graduations, weddings, travel, and other exciting events. Seeing those wonderful smiles and the people who’ve become part of our family is cause for celebration!

Beyond the Practice

When I go home in the evening, it’s to spend time with my amazing wife Alli and our two beautiful children, Sylvie and Reed. Our family also includes Milo, a Maltese/Poodle mix.

We spend a lot of the summer at the baseball and softball fields, or on the golf course. When we’re not out and about, we’re usually hanging out by our pool. Fall and winter brings football and basketball, along with dance and tumbling. When I can find free time during the autumn, I try to get in some deer hunting. Our family loves to travel and vacation whenever we can, too: we could be skiing in the mountains or savoring a beach vacation somewhere warm!
